Last April our Mother fell and broke her hip. She had surgery to repair it and then was transferred to another hospital for rehabilitation. About day 4 Mom stopped eating and just gave up. We thought she felt she would be there forever and she could not accept that. There were patients crying out and yelling at night and invading her privacy.
I realized Mom’s surrender on a Sunday and we had a family meeting and decided to bring Mom home and get help. We called HomeWell on that very day and were reassured that they would do everything possible to have staff in Mom’s home by the following day. And that is exactly what happened. Well Mom picked up and within three days was as good as new.
In June Mom fell and broke the other hip. This time she had it repaired and the HomeWell staff stayed with Mom 24 hours a day at the hospital and then we brought her straight home. With the help of HomeWell staff and CCAC physiotherapy, Mom recovered so quickly we could hardly believe it. To date she is much better physically and mentally than she had been in 5 years. Having the right help at the right time is priceless.
